second winter season week – in the box

Hi –

Hope you enjoyed the micro carrots last week – I worried they might be too something-or-other, but the one I ate was good. More of them in the box this week, as well as the three or four small heads of lettuce. There are green onions, chives, radishes all on the way – maybe next week for the green onions and chives.

Cabbage is still dragging it’s feet about forming heads – there is some logic to just saying it will be here when it gets here.

Young headless cabbage

For some obscure reason there are some new potatoes snuggled in under the cabbage – it will take them quite a while to be big enough to throw in a box.

We set out two more varieties of lettuce this week, as well as some bok choi. The peas were set outside under floating crop cover – which the garden mole is loving because I don’t set traps and spray castor oil into the runs there! Parsnips are far and away from being anywhere close to big enough to harvest. There are beets out there too, but they also are short and not ready to come out and play. The good news, of course, is that the weather is really getting things going. A couple of Peony plants popped up their ‘here I am’ flags – silly things.

So – big planting a seed starting month coming, setting out more onions, cilantro, the basil is showing baby leaves… Here comes the good stuff!

ps – room for more folks in the Green season…
